Inspiration in strange places

I don’t know about you guys but I rarely feel inspired to write or be creative when sat at my desk. I don’t know why that is perhaps the effect over the past 12 months or maybe I just seek inspiration elsewhere. Either way, I often need to get moving and exploring to get those ~ creative juices ~ flowing (I hate that as much as you do, trust me).

Truth is, I had been in a real rut in terms of ideas and creativity. January was a month of highs and learning for me, and so when February came rolling around, I felt a little stuck. So, I tried out some trusty locations to get ideas flowing and, sure enough, they worked. You might be a-ok for inspiration, and then I salute you, but if you need a leg up or a change of scenery, here are some I found useful.

The Shower

The home of creative ideas. Look, I don’t make the rules, but that is where all my best ones show up. It doesn’t even need to be a fancy one with oils and Lush shower gel, a bog-standard one can sometimes be just the ticket. Maybe I will do some research into this one day as I am sure there is a reason for this miraculous occurrence, but for now I am going to put it down to being totally and utterly relaxed, focused almost solely on achieving the perfect water temperature.

The Wilderness

Not as dramatic as it sounds. I live near to a place called Trentham Gardens which is just beautiful really. A brisk walk around the lake in one too many layers left me feeling fresh and ready to take on my to-do list when I got home. Now, I am not suggesting you travel to Trentham, anywhere outdoorsy is an option here.

Another world

Getting out of your own head and out of this world is something I also find helpful. Whether that is through reading (my number one choice), sticking on a film, or listening to a podcast, I always find it a great help to get out and wind down a little. When I am stuck for inspiration and feeling like an old tube of Pringles, this is my go-to before anything else. I’m an avid reader but find what escapism works for you.

My desk is kind of a place to do admin from at this stage, and switching up my workspace, and how I think of a desk or an office has transformed the way I work. Don’t get me wrong, you might just need a kick up the bum, and you might also just need a rest. So listen to your body, and if it isn’t coming, don’t force it.
